MESA 2008 Art Exhibit
MESA invites artists to submit their work for consideration for exhibition during the MESA 2008 annual meeting in Washington, DC. Although the exhibit is limited to 22 open hours (the duration of the annual meeting), it affords artists access to an exclusive audience of some 2,000 registered MESA attendees.
The art exhibit will be located in the atrium entrance to Exhibit Hall C, where the MESA book exhibit will be held. In terms of traffic flow, book exhibit attendees will walk directly by the art to enter the exhibit hall. The art exhibit operates on the same schedule as the book exhibit and conforms to its rules and regulations. Set-up for exhibits will be sometime on Saturday, November 22. They will be open Sunday and Monday, November 23 and 24 from 9am-6pm, and on Tuesday, November 25 from 8am-12nn.
Each chosen artist will be supplied two (2) artboards which are comprised of fabric covered foam core set into aluminum frames. Each board is 4 feet tall by 8 feet wide and approximately 4 feet from the ground. Artists are welcome to rent more boards (estimated fee is $75 per additional board). Displayed art must be light enough to be hung by Velcro, pushpins or “T” pins that can go directly into the foamcore. No heavy frames; no glass. In some cases, you may use a squared hook which can be suspended from the top of the aluminum frame. Artists are responsible for providing their own hanging materials.
Art can be hung from both sides of the board. When planning your exhibit, please take into consideration the metal border. Also, you may want to save a space for a hanger for explanatory material (a statement, or bio) and/or a holder for business cards.
Each artist (or a designated representative) is responsible for hanging and dismantling their own work during exhibit set-up (Saturday, November 22, time TBA) and break-down (Tuesday, November 25 beginning at 12:00nn).
Although the book exhibit is secured during closed hours, there is no security during open hours. Artists therefore exhibit at their own risk. MESA cannot be held liable in the case of damage or theft of artwork. Exhibiting artists must have a signed “artist agreement” on file prior to exhibiting. Artists are encouraged to purchase their own exhibit insurance as necessary.
MESA will publish a representative image and brief description of each exhibit in the conference program, and will list the art exhibit on the conference website (this stays uploaded for a year) with a link to the artist’s URL if available.
