By Elliott Colla
Academe Online, September-October 2007

Elliott Colla, associate professor of comparative literature at Brown University, describes the controversy that ensued when the Hillel Rabbi encouraged students to intervene "confrontationally" and to record clandestinely the presentations of speakers at a workshop on "The Study of the Middle East and Islam: Challenges after 9-11” held at the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University.
